american Idol: 3 men go out but only 2 can return

The final three show usually features each Idolator singing 3 songs:

1-       The Judges Pick

2-       Self Choice

3-       A mentor’s pick

Tonight we only get 2 songs each.

C'est dommage

Paula’s picks for Danny.

She picks a song from the Terence Trent D’arby album that was called at the time “superior to Sgt Pepper’s”.  Of course the only one that called it that was Terence Trent D’arby himself.

His followup album he said was superior to the Ten Commandments and the Sermon on the Mount combined.

D’arby’s “Dance Little Sister” was well performed by Danny who was then criticized by Kara and Simon for his dancing.  Personally, I think Danny is a much better dancer than Moses or Jesus.  But then again, YOU try to boogie in the desert wearing sandals!

Kara is given the ultimate humiliation.  She is not given her ‘own’ song to pick for Kris.  She has to share with Randy.  Maybe they thought she was too new to the judging table to able to choose a song for a contestant on by herself and needed big Dawg Randy to help.  The humiliation is worse when you consider that the producers thought PAULA had what it takes but Kara didn’t!

C’est dommage!

So Kara and Randy pick “Apologize” by One Republic.

I know this song was a big hit, in fact HUGE hit last year spending half the year in the top ten– but let’s face it.  It sucks.  Yeah, it’s one of those songs that gets stuck in your head forever.  But so does every song played on Noggin’.

Kris performs the song as if he’s auditioning for the Wiggles.  I think he’ll get the job.

Simon tells us how he contacted Bono and asked him if Adam could sing, “One” this week.  Talk about Name-Dropping!  Now, let’s just say “One” is one of the greatest songs of all time.  Adam’s version is passable.  Vocally it was good but it can’t match Bono’s or the interplay between Bono and the rest of U2.

Later, Simon confided that he had originally contacted the folks at Schoolhouse Rock! and asked them if Adam could sing “Lolly, Lolly, Lolly, Get Your Adverbs Here” but was turned down.

C’est dommage!

Danny is given the power to pick his own song.  He decides on the Joe Cocker hit, “You are so Beautiful”.  The Judges loved it.  I thought it was just alright.  Nothing memorable.  Instead I would’ve picked a homage to Danny’s hometown, with a song written by Jerry Lee Lewis called, “What Made Milwaukee Famous (Has Made A Loser Out Of Me)”.

Kris picks Kanye West’s hit “Heartless”.  It’s a very interesting version and certainly in my opinion is better than Kanye’s.  Normally, I’d be afraid of insulting Kanye, who we all know is a self-titled, “genius”.  But my opinion is shared by Randy who tells Kris that he too thinks his is better!  Moments later, Kanye storms through the door of the American Idol studios and slaughters Randy Jackson! (actual depiction seen below)

 kanye by you.

Kara immediately looks at her decapitated associate and shouts out, “Ok, NOW can I pick a song for them by myself?!”

Adam’s pick is a little underwhelming… “Cryin’” by Aerosmith.

But if Adam isn’t in the finals this whole season was for naught, and we’d all be Cryin’.

So the Prediction:

The Wiggles are calling you Kris!  Don’t keep them waiting!

BTW, I am actually thinking of taking the kids to see the American Idol tour this year.  Between these 3, Allison, and one or 2 others I think this would be a decent show.
