American Idol - Beatled to Eleven
I was just as shocked as you were when Ryan Seacrest announced that we were gonna get back-2-back Beatles weeks.
I'm not sure of the reason but it could be:
1.      American Idol paid a lot for the songs and wanted their money's worth…
2.      The first week went so well (with several great performances and no real low lights)…
3.      Yoko Ono called up and asked, "How come no one told me my husband was in the Beatles.  This is a complete surprise!"
So welcome to the Beatles Second Album…it's me, Dhani and Beatrice...

Cycle And Crome Magazine's favorite girl, Amanda is first up singing, "Back in the USSR".  Amanda's been compared to Janis.  Last week I said she reminded me of Loretta Lynn.  But honestly, Amanda would love to be Melissa Ethridge.  Don't you agree?  Dhani wants to know what the USSR is.  "It's a country that no longer exists" "Did the people all move away?"  Here's a version of the song by Billy Joel

Horse 'n' Mouth Disease Magazine's covergal, Kristy Lee is trying to overcome last week's fiasco with a power ballad version of "You've Got to hide your love away" originally done by the Beatles in the movie 'Help!'  (Click to see it HERE)  It's Kristy's best performance so far but that's not saying much.  Another trip to the bottom 3 for Kristy Lee.

Up next is Sixteen Going On Seventy Playbill's David A.  After watching him completely botch "We can work it out" last week, Joel McHale of E!Television's THE SOUP had this classic line to say, "Congratulations Yoko Ono, assassins, cancer and one-legged gold diggers.  You are no longer the worst thing that has happened to the Beatles."  Little David is crowned by the judges with his version of "The Long and Winding Road".  I was not impressed.  Nice voice but was he vulnerable enough for the song?  Here's a preferable performance by George Michael

Vegemite Sandwich Bulletin's Michael has moshed up the 5 minutes masterpiece "A Day in the Life" and squished it into 97 seconds of irrelevance.  He takes one line, skips 3 more and the jumps to the next verse.  I'm not sure why he didn't just sing 1 line each from 12 different songs.  The effect would've been the same.  Something like this:
"I read the news today oh boy, Rocky Racoon fell back in his room, only to find Gideon's Bible, yeah, yeah, yeah, number 9, number 9, and I've been working like dog, in the town where I was born, lived a man who sailed to sea, Jo-Jo was a man who thought he's a real Nowhere Man please listen, Do you want to know a secret?  Do you promise not to tell Lady Madonna, children at your feet, wonder how you manage to make ends meet with a little help from my friends…I Love to tuuuuurn yooooou ooonnnn."   What a Disgrace!  Michael should be in the bottom three because this was an abomination.   And to think that this was his genre?!  Here is Jeff Beck's homage to the original

Poster girl for Shiny Happy People Weekly, Brooke, was marvelous with "Let it Be".  It's a shame she messes her Dark Horse status with a poor version of George Harrison's "Here Comes the Sun"  (by coincidence George named his record label DARK HORSE RECORDS).  Her sunshiney disposition should've worked.  But didn't.  Watch Bon Jovi perform it.

Wash and Blow Magazine's David cook found a cover of WhiteSnake (???) doing "Day Tripper" that he wants to emulate.  WHITE SNAKE!? Well, Here is their version.  Like David's version there's a voice box thingy going.  I thought it sucked.  Too self-indulgent.  Sucked the whole Plastic soul out of the song.

The Drunk-At-The-Pub Daily's Carly has been pretty consistent throughout.  Tonight she performs "Blackbird" or as McCartney calls it in jest, "Blackboard".  It's a fair version though despite her announcement that it's about her feeling free and happy now that she's made it to American Idol, I don't really feel any emotion.  Listen to Crosby Stills and Nash sing it in harmony.   Beatrice notes, "I like carly's version.  They are very creative especially the girls."

The publication Hacky-Sack Monthly (though to be honest, they are too fried to put it out out Monthly.  So, it comes out whenever they feel like it) lets it's star, Stoner Jason butcher "Michelle".  Through the haze of pot, I can tell that he thinks it's totally narly to sing in French especially since foreign babes are completely wicked rad.  Score dude!
Give it up for the BeatleTributeBand: Band on the Roof

There were only two pretty good performances tonight.  (None great)  Here's The DontYouForgetAboutMe Post's Syesha with "Yesterday".  "Yesterday" is a hard song to cover and McCartney's marvelously dry naturalistic vocal has never been topped despite being covered by well over 3000 other artists.  Here's Elvis's rendition.

CrazyAssName Magazine's ChikezieLikeSundayMorning knows that he 'killed' last week.  This week he takes on "I've Just Seen A face", a song originally recorded on the same day as Yesterday (as well as "I'm down").  Whether you liked or didn't like ChikezieLikeSundayMorning's harmonica playing, or the Slowdown R&B vocals mixed with a funky C&W, you have to admit he was having fun, and really enjoyed pleasing the crowd.  Along with Syesha, this was the best song of the night.  You can enjoy it Here.  Also, from the movie, ACROSS THE UNIVERSE.

From The Big Lungs-Little Legs Daily Informer is Ramiele.  A somewhat spirited performance of "I Should Have Known Better" is pitchy at times, but by the end she finds her grove.  Here's the original video from the movie "A Hard Day's Night".   Look for Patty Boyd (later the wife of George Harrison and Eric Clapton) as one of the girls checking out the Beatles on the train.  She's the blonde.

Prediction time:
This should be the bottom 3:  Kristy Lee, Michael, Ramiele..
