American Idol: Idol Gags Back
Last year Idol's Charity Event brought in $75 million for various charities.  By all accounts, the charities picked have done their job getting the funds to where it should go with only 5% going to bureaucracy, which is an amazing feat.  I hope this year's "Idol Gives Back" brings in twice as much.
Of course, our Idolators are singing "Inspirational songs".  Oh Goody! That inspires one thing in me and it comes up and out in the form of Vomiting.  I can only imagine what sappy, maudlin, mawkish, over-sentimental Choir-retching dreck our little friends will stake us with.

Perhaps Jason will get high and chant, "I can believe I can fly".  Perhaps Carly will entertain us with last year's winner Jordin Sparks' hit "Tattoo".
And David A's Dad will beat his son until he sings Shep and the Limelights, "Daddy's Home".  BUT if we are ALL lucky we'll hear Kristy Lee try out the theme from "Chariots of Fire".  (Think about that one for a sec)

Michael does a carbon copy cover of Aerosmith's "Dream On".  It inspires me to grab the real thing and play it loudly.  Michael's instantly forgettable.  Dream on, Michael.  Though Michael does stimulate me to grab my ascot.  Here's a photo of me:

Last week I blasted Syesha for taking on a song on the Queen of all pop songs, and one so closely identify with a much better singer.  Syesha is nothing but stubborn.  She picks one of THEclassic Idol moments.  It inspired me to watch it here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=VMcRWinGPbc.  Whether or not Syesha is beautiful (she is) or she can sing (she can), I have no idea what kind of singer she will be.  She shoots for the stars…but she's stuck in orbit.

Every high school play (and Drag cabaret) has someone sing, "Somewhere over the Rainbow".  Recently Hawaiian Israel "Iz" Kamakawiwo'ole put a new a spin on the standard with his large frame and his ukulele.  Stoner Jason, after getting the munches for some poi, tries his hand at imitating the big kahuna.   I'm not quite sure what the judges were thinking as they praised Jason but I wasn't inspired except to put on my pumps (I have some) and sing "Tiny Bubbles" in the bathtub.   Take me home, Donny Ho.

Kristy Lee knows she is next.  I'm not sure what gave it away.  It was either the 14 bottom 3 finishes or the fact that no one can look her in the eye.  Kristy is pulling out all the punches.  Tight, low cut shirt.  Tight pants.  Oh, and a Song about the Lord.  Martina McBride's "Anyway" is an inspiring song.  I'm so movitated to make sure Kristy Lee is gone, then I am pledging to vote for everyone else at least 30 times.

David Cook takes his cue from Toronto's Our Lady Peace.  His version of "Innocent" starts off flat.  He is completely disconnected with the band.  Sadly this is David's worst performance in weeks.  I'm inspired to bomb Canada.

Do you remember where you were when you first heard that Freddie Mercury was dying of AIDS?  And do you remember when they played, "Show must go on".  THAT was inspiring.  THAT was a person defying death.  Carly will have trouble not being kicked off this week.  She was so sharp I was moved to have a cheddar sandwich.

I think Robbie Williams' "Angels" is one of the best pop songs.  It was a minor hit here but only by Jessica Simpson.  Williams will be performing on Idol Gives Back.  Not sure what he will be singing.  If he sings this song, he will be putting David Archeleta to shame.  David was ok, but it's too easy with a song like this.  Even Jessica sounded ok with it.  I'm stirred to watch the Cowboys blow a game.

It would be simple to dismiss our little Miss Brooke's "You've Got a Friend" as another example of Brooke going back to the 70s singer-songwriter well once again.  But this is what Brooke excels at.  And her voice is unique enough, and stands out enough that she takes a song that is so well-known by multiple performers.  And unlike the mugging and slightly contrived acting prepared by the other 7 idols, this is a breath of fresh air.  I'm enthused to flip the remote back and listen again.  Listen to it again and tell me that it isn't memorable: http://youtube.com/watch?v=srWwvEkrpdg.  Despite this, Brooke will be in the bottom 3.

Along with Brooke, the bottom 3 will include Ms. Bottom, Kristy Lee, and Syesha.  Or even Carly.  None of the women are safe (not counting Jason).  This has been a boy's year so far.
