Columbus Day signifies the most significant event in modern history (or at least the last 2000 years). Nothing in any corner of the world has been the same since Columbus' voyage.
I've always found it strange that it is an "Italian" holiday. Yes, I know Columbus was Italian but let's face it, the voyages of Columbus did not benefit Italy but Spain (and then Portugal, France and England).
And realistically, Columbus' voyages directly brought about the "creation" of Hispanos (Hispanics). So it really should be also a Hispanic holiday.
Also, a brief acknowledgement that today is the Canadian Thanksgiving. Good luck to all those making a meal for their loved ones, and even better luck to those that are eating said meal.
In Canada, do you listen to "Alice's Restaurant" on the radio?
Do you have parades that entice you to spend more at Christmas?
Do you watch Planes, Trades and Automobiles?
Since you don't eat pounds of turkey, do you eat just a few kilos?
