Try not to look too far ahead, but keep your eyes on the future.
John, Paul, George, David, David and David - Idols 12
HELP! This could be the most difficult review for me.
Not because I have to watch, listen and comment on the top 12 singing my beloved Beatles.
But because my kids are injured.
Zak has a belly ache.
Lee just banged her head on the National Trust and now has a huge bruise.
They are here still. What brave troopers.
So finally Michael Jackson quit saying, "You never give me your money" and allowed the American Idol folks to get their grubby hands on the Lennon-McCartney songbook in order to save his kiddie-porn ranch.
Well, let me take you down cause we are going to…
Syesha is performing the Earth, Wind and Fire 1978 version of "Got to get you into my life" from this 'brilliant' flick, Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band. THE MOVIE, that was somehow overlooked by the academy. Syesha seemed to be holding back and it was pretty weak…but she's still sexy. BTW, McCartney has come out and said this song was about pot.
ChikizieLikeSundayMorning has the performance of the night as he presents "She's A Woman" first as a bluegrass bit and then as something done by Jackie Wilson. It's hip. Of course, "She's A Woman" was originally released as the B-Side to "I feel Fine" and went to #4 in early 1965. (Hey, I'm trying NOT to overload the info). It's well worth watching it: http://youtube.com/watch?v=JK7P3fEnDZs&feature=related
Zzzzzz
Oh, Ramiele just sang "In My Life".
She has this big 'old voice and here she sings it sweet. As if she's singing to her greatgrandma on her 95th birthday. But GreatNoona is asleep already and now the rest of us are as well. The Original version can be found on my favorite album, Rubber Soul, which is the first album I bought with my own money, which I probably stole…shhh…
We're still sleeping
DudE!!!!! It's Stoner Jason. He's got the incense, the lavender candles, maybe a doob, and his axe. "If I fell" is one of the most magical songs in the Lennon-McCartney canon, it is an amazing duet between John and Paul doing their best Everly Brothers' vocal. Oh, Jason's version? Eh. I've heard it done better at Strawberry Fields in Central Park on December 8th in the freezing cold.
"Shoot Me" is the famous words whispered by Lennon during "Come Together", his 1969 autobiographical hit. Will we be shooting Carly after hearing her take on it? No, but it wasn't as great as Randy Paula or Simon thought. And do we really need to see Carly work at a bar, again??? Pour me a drink, and then go watch Come Together, THE MOVIE.
"Darning his socks in the night" has now become "Wearing his socks in the night" as rewritten by David C. Yeah, it was ok to hear David rock "Eleanor Rigby" wearing his hair he kept by a jar by the door.
Nanny Brooke comes out on stage and does a raunchy version of "Why don't we do it in the Road". Oh no. wait. Our Juice Newton sings "Let it Be" accompanying herself on the piano. Her simple sauntering lilting voice does justice to the simple tune. Her voice has color and Brooke knows her own abilities. I'd advise you to go watch Let it Be, THE MOVIE, but it is still not out on DVD. This is worth it too: http://youtube.com/watch?v=KCn1kklyCbw
The first song on the first Beatles album begins with a "1, 2, 3, 4!" and it's probably the greatest debut foe any pop-rock act. It may also be David H's finale. The scandal last week is now a week old and is well known. But even though I like david's voice on "I saw her standing there", it's just not the type of song for him. It's like he's on a cruise with Kathy Lee Gifford.
Amanda has never heard of "You can't do that" but does an excellent version anyway. It's more Loretta Lynn than Janis. Not much more to add. You either like Amanda or you hate Amanda.
Michael goes thru a bland version of "Across the Universe" from the MOVIE, "across the universe". The original version created for a charity in 1967 featured 2 girls singing background vocals. The lucky girls were plucked out of the crowd of Beatle groupies hanging outside of Abbey Road while the Beatles were recording. Just wanted to throw out that useless fact.
Yee-haw. Kristy Lee goes country just like Simon suggested to her last week. Of course, we all know Simon HATES country music. So it's possible he is setting her up for a fall. The biggest problem for Kristy Lee is not the choice of song, "Eight Days A week", or the country styling, but the beat of the band. They are on speed, it's as if they can't wait for poor Kristy Lee to go into thrash metal. She can't keep up with the drumming which is galloping along right to the results show where Kristy Lee is bound to be in the bottom 3.
Finally it's David A. I haven't been as impressed with Davey as the rest of you have. And tonight, he's finally knocked down a peg. His cover of Stevie Wonder's cover of "we can work it out" will be unforgettable just because David has forgotten the words. His voice and energy is down as well. Little David should've done, "Little child" instead. This is the end of his supposed invincibility.
Overall, this was pretty good. Nothing embarrassing, and a decent range of selections. Thankfully no one did, "Her Majesty", "Dig It" or "Somebody's got something to hide except for me and my monkey"
Bottom 3: Ramiele, David H, Kristy Lee.
And in the End…it'll be David.
