It’s strange. They remind us of us. They are similar in many ways. And yet we completely ignore them. They talk to us and we pretend they aren’t there.
I’m obviously talking about Canadians.
Why doesn’t Canada list on our mental radars? Why don’t’t we take notice of what happens north of the 49th parallel?
Canada’s government is going through a whole “no-confidence” entanglement http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen/story.html?id=c8086148-d1c8-4951-98fb-94d1f6edcbd3&k=16782. It’s a major, major story. And yet…as of 1 PM
The NY Times web site has no info on it
Yahoo news has no headlines about it…though the Rolling Stones playing at the SuperBowl is there
The Washington Post? No mention of this story on the website front page though there are stories about Zimbabwe and Chechnya.
Google has it as the #2 topic.
It’s the 6th biggest story for Reuters (after the 999th person expected to be executed. Is that even a really newsworthy story?)
CNN - Nada
The Wall Street Journal ignores it totally…though Howard Stern’s move to satellite radio is mentioned.
LA Times? Nothing.
So, what is up with us? Why are we so unconcerned with Canada?
Even when it’s a story about human weakness, and unspeakable acts (such as this one detailed thoroughly by Limelife )!
As long as the issue comes from Canada, we could care less…
