The Canadian Election for Americans
Here's the way the Canadian Election went down, I think.
After decades of complete control and after various scandals rocked the Canadian capital, the Liberal and the Social Democratic parties barely lost to the Conservative party. It was closer than most thought.
What does this mean for Canada?
It means that the new Prime Minister Stephen Harper can't be as conservative as most in his party would like him to be. He has to work with his political opponents in order to get anything done. He will press for tax cuts but increase spending. At least that's my opinion.
One of his first thoughts has to be fixing the Canadian healthcare system which has some issues.
The Liberal party has this opportunity to clean up their act. They may just be back in power before too long.
The best Mr. Harper can do is introduce free market theory into Canada. It won't be a big shift at all.
Except for constant verbal attacks on US policy, we will probably not see a difference in the way Canada is run.
